Our team successfuly held the TechnoForum at PhilConstruct Luzon 2026 held at the SMX Convention Center, Clark, Pampanga on April 23, 2026.
The activity covered a quick background on Philippine geology, aggregate and mineral evaluation, and the role of cement types and additives in ensuring concrete integrity. These topics were delivered by Leonila Bron, Chelly Mei Tanpoco, Nancy Aguda, and Ma. Elizabeth Laus. The session highlighted the importance of using concrete petrography as a mitigating and diagnostic tool in the deterioration of concrete.
Congratulations to Dr. Carlo A. Arcilla for being chosen as one of the Asia’s Top 100 scientists!
We would also like to give our utmost congratulations to the 10 Filipino scientists and researchers who were included in the prestigious list of The Asian Scientist magazine’s Asian Scientist 100.

Through his experiences, he has gained expertise on various topics including: high-temperature geochemistry, mineralogy, petrology and mineral resource assessment and is also a distinguished PMRC Competent Person in Geology.
Dr. Arcilla continues to exhibit excellence as a geologist by juggling his responsibilities as the current DOST-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) Director, as a professor at the National Institute of Geological Science (NIGS), University of the Philippines and as the laboratory head of the Earth Materials Science Laboratories.
The Department of Science and Technology has tapped the University of the Philippines experts to help in the ongoing structural inspection of some 60 so called "lifeline structures" in Metro Manila. This is in line with measures to ensure their integrity during calamities. Moreover, this is also in preparation for the "Big One", the earthquake that might hit Metro Manila and nearby areas.
Concrete Petrography as an assessment tool in ensuring quality and health of concrete used in buildings, bridges, and roads, was featured at the DOST 5th National Research and Development Conference on November 10, 2020. This innovation was presented by one of the senior geologists of the EMS-CP Laboratory, Jeremy James Jimenez.
